Video for Entertainment Speech

Here is a video that shows a young college CS student giving a speech about "why you should date a CS student." It's very funny and a great example of how a speech can be entertaining without the speaker being a comedian.

As in the article "Teaching History with Youtube" the author states that youtube is a good tool because so many famous historical events are available for viewing. The author gives an example of a news reel of Mussolini's execution, or Einstein explaining the theory of relativity. Both of these examples depict how Digital media can be used in education to relive and watch famous historical events.

In my class, I do a chapter on public speaking. It's very useful for me to include some digital media clips of different kinds of speech's so the students get to see examples of what they are going to do.

As an educator I realize the importance of technology. In knowing that, the question I often ask myself is "how?" How do I maximize learning by using technology? In what ways should I use it? Obviously, a lot of research needs to be done on this topic.

I believe people learn in all different kinds of ways. Most effectively I believe people learn when they are motivated to learn. This can be for many reasons. People learn because of intrinsic motivation where they want to learn for the sake of learning or people can learn from a teacher that explains something in an interesting way. I think you have to be interested in something to really care about learning it.

Once interest is established, using a variety of methods to collect information is a great way to access what you want to learn. Multi Media, articles, audio/visual, are some ways that I found to be successful in my own life and I've seen produce success in those I teach.
